The infrared thermometer measures temperature by infrared radiation (heat
rays) discharged from the material being measured. The discharge of infrared
radiation is referred to as emissivity. Factory default emission setting
is 0.95 which is typical. However, a shiny or glossy surface of the material
being measured will impact on the reading of the temperature as the emissivity
is deceptively lower. For this purpose, factory settings are adjustable.
